More interested in her cell phone than the show, Kim Kardashian Texts her way through ‘Fela’ on Broadway

Kim Kardashian Texts Through Entire Broadway Performance of Fela

Kanye West’s idea of a fun New York date did not do it for Kim Kardashian Monday.

The mercurial rapper and his reality-star girlfriend ventured to Times Square Monday to see “Fela!” at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, where the hit show is making a brief Broadway return. But Kardashian appeared to be mesmerized by her cell phone rather than the rump-shaking, feet-stomping Tony Award-winning musical.

According to a source in the theater, Kardashian “was on her phone texting the whole time through the first act” of the show before she and West opted to stand instead of sit for the second act.

Despite the fact the headline-grabbing couple “came separately” to the show, a theater insider says they sat next to each other for the first act before changing locations at intermission.

They retreated from their seats for unspecified reasons, preferring to stand and watch the more serious and abstract second act from the back of the theater, said multiple sources.

Our insider says they seemed to be seeking a less conspicuous spot, because West “thought people were watching them” at their seats.

Unfortunately for the hip-hop heavyweight, the change didn’t bring much privacy.

A few excited fans, mostly teens, quickly approached Kanye and Kim to chat and ask if they would pose for a photo, says one of our theater sources. Kardashian gladly obliged, but West declined. He did, however, sign autographs for fans outside the theater before entering.

Notably, the celeb couple did not wear matching outfits. In recent outings in New York, Los Angeles and Paris, they were chided in the media for sporting similarly colored and patterned wardrobe selections.

Kardashian dutifully arrived at the theater on time and wore a green dress that accentuated her voluptuous curves.

West, on the other hand, showed up late, wearing a hipster-rif ic outfit usually not seen on the Great White Way: backwards leather ball cap, black tank top and saggy leather pants with a pair of his $245 Nike sneakers, the Air Yeezy 2s.

According to our insider, West bought eight tickets to the show so friends and his main squeeze could experience the production, which celebrates the late Nigerian musician, activist and polygamist Fela Kuti, played by Adesola Osakalumi .

West was hoping his crew would enjoy the same show he saw last fall in San Francisco. Our insider says that during his “Watch the Throne” tour with Jay-Z last spring, West also bought multiple tickets for “Fela!”

Reps for Kardashian and West did not return our request for comment.
