Angelina Jolie Meets With Refugees in Ecuador

In her new role as a U.N. special envoy, Angelina Jolie didn’t waste any time leaving behind her engagement celebration with her family in the Galápagos Islands and getting down to work for her pet cause.

The soon-to-be Mrs. Brad Pitt popped up in Ecuador over the weekend, where she met with refugees camped along the country’s border who had fled from violence in neighboring Colombia.

This is the third trip the 36-year-old Jolie has made to the country, her first as a special envoy after having visited in her former capacity as a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ Goodwill Ambassador.

Her mission? Assess the displacement situation there and report back to U.N. officials.

The Beyond Borders star—clad in simple black pants, tank top, rubber boots and eschewing makeup—chatted with a 71-year-old refugee in the village of Barrancabermeja, where dozens of refugees have taken up residence.
